Two of a new series of small crocus paintings I’ve done in time for Open Studios.

Crocus painting by Kirsty Lorenz, size 30x30cm, Acrylic and Oils on Canvas

I’ve been experimenting with working on to cotton I’ve had printed with images, both photographic and drawn by me. These two pictures began as black and white photographs of grass printed onto Panama Cotton. I then worked on them with acrylic inks and paints then painted the flower in oils. I’m working with the theme ‘floresce’ – a bursting into flower – and I like the contrast between the more gestural marks for the grass and the photo-real paining of the flower, and the way colour is bursting out of the black and white ! They are 30x30cm.
