This is a life size portrayal of a posy of Holly and Ivy. Holly, showing life even in the depths of winter, is a protective plant. In classical times Holly protected houses either as a bough above a door or planted around the house, the spiny leaves wounded evil spirits and stopped spells and curses. Ivy, lush and evergreen, clinging and entwining, here symbolises the enduring connection and strength of friendship and love. More information about this artworks development on my blog.
